Ali lahko psi jedo cimet?

Cimet je pogosta praznična začimba, za ljudi mu pripisujejo tudi pozitivne učinke na zdravje, predvsem za krvni sladkor. Kako pa je s cimetom pri psih?

Cimet v majhnih količinah ni strupen za pse in ga pogosto vključujejo v pasje priboljške zaradi njegovih antioksidantov in protivnetnih lastnosti.

Vendar pa lahko prevelika količina ali določene oblike cimeta, kot so eterična olja ali cimetove palčke, povzročijo resne zdravstvene težave.

Kdaj je cimet varen za pse?

  • Varne količine najdemo v pasjih priboljških, ki so posebej zasnovani za pse.
  • Cimet lahko v majhnih količinah podpira zdravje srca, znižuje krvni sladkor in blaži vnetja. Pred dodajanjem cimeta v prehrano psa se posvetujte z veterinarjem.

Kdaj je cimet nevaren za pse?

  • Prevelike količine: Več kot čajna žlička cimetovega prahu lahko povzroči nizek krvni sladkor, težave z jetri, bruhanje, drisko in težave s srcem.
  • Eterična olja: Tudi majhna količina lahko povzroči resno toksičnost, draženje, kašelj in težave z dihanjem.
  • Cimetove palčke: Lahko povzročijo draženje ustne votline ali prebavil.
  • Sladki pekovski izdelki (npr. cimetove rolice): Pogosto vsebujejo strupene sestavine, kot so muškatni orešček, rozine, ter veliko maščob in sladkorja, kar škoduje zdravju psa. Nekateri kupljeni izdelki vsebujejo tudi nevarne nadomestke sladkorja, kot je ksilitol.

Kaj storiti, če pes zaužije preveč cimeta?

  • Simptomi vključujejo kašelj, dušenje, draženje ust, bruhanje, težave z dihanjem in bronhospazme.
  • Takoj kontaktirajte veterinarja oz. dežurnega veterinarja.
  • Zdravljenje lahko vključuje intravensko tekočino, zaščito jeter, zdravila proti bruhanju ali podporo dihanju.

Kako preprečiti težave s cimetom?

  • Hranite cimet, cimetove palčke in eterična olja izven dosega psa.
  • Ne uporabljajte eteričnih olj v difuzorju, če imate psa.
  • Ne hranite psa s človeškimi pekovskimi izdelki z veliko maščob, sladkorja in potencialno toksičnih sestavin.

Čeprav je cimet lahko varen v majhnih količinah, je treba vedno biti previden in se posvetovati z veterinarjem, da zaščitite zdravje vašega psa.
